Video: England crowned IRB junior world champions

England came from 15-3 down to beat Wales 23-15 in the final of the IRB Junior World Championship on Sunday.

The final of Junior Rugby World Championships between England and Wales was the first ever all-northern hemisphere decider.

England had reached the final on three previous occasions and suffered defeat each time to New Zealand.

And they looked to be headed for a fourth final defeat as first-time finalists Wales led 15-3 at half-time.

Two tries from winger Ashley Evans, put the Welsh firmly in control.

England had to play the opening ten minutes of the second half with fourteen men after second row Dominic Barrow was sent to the sin bin just before the break.

When he came back though, England were resurgent and full back Jack Nowell crossed over for a try in the 58th minute, which was converted by Henry Slade.

The flyhalf missed a penalty moments before setting up England’s second try, scored by centre Sam Hill, which brought England level at 15-15.

Slade added the conversion to put England into the lead for the first time in the match.

Slade edged England further ahead with two more penalties, as England ran out 23-15 victors to lift their first IRB Junior World Championship.
