Alexis Sanchez

What’s life without taking a few chances? Some turn bad while some hits the sweet spot in such a way that we revel in its glorious blithe for some time to come. The Fantasy Premier League gives you that chance; the chance to make the perfect transfer so that you can have the perfect Gameweek: a victory for your team and a great Gameweek score in the FPL to brag about.Taking chances surely has its perils and thus we seek the help. That’s where we come in with our weekly feature of the Fantasy Premier League. Here are this week’s list of five player for you to pick in the Fantasy Premier League.

#1 Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez celebrates scoring his second goal against Sunderland last week.

Alexis Sanchez is probably the “Man to Pick” coming into Gameweek 10. While Arsenal are yet to make their mark on the Premier League this season, the Chilean winger has been in trailblazing form of late. The Gunner’s new recruit has notched up 29 points in the last two game-weeks courtesy of 3 goals, an assist and full bonus points in each of the games.

While Sanchez might be deemed to be a costly affair at the current price of 10.4, it’s buys like these that will propel one up the ranking tables.

With Arsenal set to host Burnley, Sanchez can be the jackpot that you surely wouldn’t want to miss. The following weeks see the Gunners host the not so formidable Manchester United in Gameweek 12, while going on away trips to Swansea and West Brom on Gameweeks 11 and 13 respectively. Thus, while the run-in may not be quite as good as others, we can surely expect Sanchez to produce the goods week in week out, considering the special talent that he is.

#2 Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku celebrates scoring Everton’s second goal during their Barclays Premier League game against Aston Villa

Everton shelled out the ‘moolah’ this summer on Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku when they paid a club record fee £28million to Chelsea for his services. The Merseysiders backed Roberto Martinez and have built on a formidable first season at the helm for the Spaniard mastermind.

The Belgian looks to be slowly but surely beginning to repay the faith of the Toffees. Four goals in the last six Premier Leagues is a sure sign that Romelu Lukaku is starting to hit his strides this season. With a favourable run-in in front him, there shouldn’t be much of a fuss on whether to bring the talented Belgian in to the squad.

Everton host Swansea, West Ham and Hull; while going on away trips to lowly Sunderland and an out of form Spurs in their next five games.

#3 Gabriel Obertan (Newcastle)

Gabriel Obertan
Gabriel Obertan has been given a second bite at the cherry by Newcastle this season

I never there would come a day when I would suggest anyone to pick up Gabriel Obertan, but here I am doing the once thought unfathomable.

Obertan was basically so bad in his first three seasons at St. James’ Park that Newcastle were even unable to offload him to another team in France. However, with injuries and the departures of players like Sylvain Marveaux and Hatem Ben Arfa, the Frenchman has found himself back into Alan Pardew’s scheme of things. And boy, has he taken his chance with both hands!

In fact, it wouldn’t at all be an overstatement if I say that Obertan was like a glimmer of hope during one of Newcastle’s most horrendous starts to the season till date in the Premier League. He has been a difference maker on the right for Newcastle and a catalyst Newcastle mini-revival in their last three games. It was in fact Obertan’s goal a fortnight ago against Leicester that gave Newcastle their first win of their campaign.

At a meagre price of £4.4million in the FPL, Gabriel Obertan gives you exactly what Fantasy owners always look for in a cheap midfield. While his low prices offsets the salary you need to bring in a marquee midfielder into the squad. Added to the fact that Obertan happens to get regular burn and is playing decent football, he can be a gold-dust to Fantasy owners.

With a run-in that looks like:(struggling) Liverpool(Home), West Brom(Away), QPR(Home), West Ham(Away) and Burnley(Away); Obertan can certainly even sneak into the starting line-up when the other midfielders have a tough match-up.

#4 Antolin Alcaraz (Everton)

Antolin Alcaraz
Antolin Alcaraz (R) can be the bargain buy of the week

Antolin Alcaraz priced at a modest £4.3million can be a great coup for all Fantasy Managers. The Paraguayan has a modest run-up as discussed in the case of his team-mate Romelu Lukaku and is certainly better than any of other defenders available in the same price bracket.

Alcaraz has just started two games so far at the back alongside Phil Jagielka and helped the Toffees to a clean sheet against Aston Villa and gave a solid show at the back against Burnley. With John Stones out for some months and Sylvain Distin out of favour with Martinez after Everton’s frail start at the back at the beginning of the season, the South American is set to be there in the first eleven for some weeks to come.

#5 Saido Berahino (West Brom)

Saido Berahino
Saido Berahino has been a revelation this season

West Brom’s Saido Berahino has probably been the revelation of the season so far in the Premier League alongside West Ham’s Diafra Sakho. Under the tutelage of new manager Alan Irvine the young English forward has thrived and seemingly hit a gear that previously most observers thought was non-existant.

Eight goals in the season’s first nine games certainly lend good credentials to the fact that the 21-year old may be set for a break out season. With games against Leicester and Newcastle upcoming, this might certainly be the time for you to strike the iron while its hot.

With Leandro Ulloa’s goal drying up and Sakho seemingly out for this Gameweek with a shoulder injury, Berahino’s inclusion in your side as the “budget forward” makes more than a modicum of sense.

#6 Punt of the Week: Mario Balotelli (Liverpool)

Mario Balotelli
There was at last a reason to smile for Mario Balotelli as he scored against Swansea in the League Cup this week.

If Mario Balotelli in a Liverpool shirt was to be described in a single word, ‘awful’ might be word that first strikes your mind. The Italian has had a torrid time in his second spell in English football with the ex-Manchester City man yet to find the back of the net for the Reds in the Premier League.

But things might be about to change for the Italian with Balotelli scoring the League Cup midweek and a game against the fragile Newcastle back-line coming up at just the right time for the Italian to kick-start his Anfield career.

The magpies have been awful at the back so far; registering only two clean sheets in their first nine games. Newcastle have seemingly been the perfect tonic for strikers to revive their form. So far this season, ten forwards playing this season in nine games have collectively secured 60 points. That’s six points per forward in a competition and I’ve not even included the winger/forward of the modern football.

This might not be the brightest idea you might have heard all week, but that’s what a punt is all about, isn’t it?
