Seattle Seahawks v Los Angeles Chargers
Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker making a Chargers defender miss in a 37-23 win

On Sunday, the New York Giants (6-1) will travel across the country to take on the Seattle Seahawks (4-3).

The Giants have been a pleasant surprise this season, recently edging the Jacksonville Jaguars en route to their best seven-game start since 2008. The game came down to the wire, with the New York defense stopping the Jaguars at the one-yard line as the clock hit triple-zeroes. The Giants trailed 17-13 heading into the fourth quarter, but a clutch 11-play 69-yard drive capped by a Daniel Jones one-yard rushing touchdown gave New York their first lead since 11:37 left in the third. Superstar RB Saquan Barkley continued his resurgent 2022 campaign, amassing 135 yards on 28 touches.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks dominated the Los Angeles Chargers in a 37-23 win. 2022 second-round pick Kenneth Walker continued to impress, rushing for 168 yards and two scores against a Chargers defense that was supposed to be formidable against the run. Pro Bowl WR DK Metcalf exited early with a knee injury, but journeyman Marquise Goodwin filled in nicely, finding the end zone twice in the win. Neither Smith nor Jones has faced off against the teams they will play Sunday. Seattle has won four of the last five against New York, dating back to 2011.

Tale of the Tape

The New York Giants are white hot, riding a four-game winning streak into Sunday's clash with Seattle. A ton of credit goes to RB Saquan Barkley, who may be the most valuable non-quarterback in the NFL. Barkley leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage (906) and touches (168). The former Offensive Rookie of the Year has already surpassed his rushing numbers from the past two seasons combined, a time in which he missed a combined 18 games. The passing game plays second fiddle to a run-heavy approach, ranking 29th in passing attempts.

The New York defense has mainly been hit-or-miss, struggling mightily against the run but pesky against the pass. The Giants allow a league-worst 5.7 yards per attempt, an awful number considering the number of blitzes dialed up by defensive coordinator Don Martindale. The secondary has permitted only one passing touchdown per game. Cornerback Fabian Moreau, an offseason practice squad signee, has been a God send, already accumulating five PBUs and 27 combined tackles in six games.

The equally surprising Seattle Seahawks have benefited from a breakout year from nine-year veteran QB Geno Smith. The ship seemed to sail on the prospects of Smith after a disappointing start to his career with the New York Jets, but he has finally found a home in Seattle with HC Pete Carroll. Smith leads the NFL in completion percentage at 73.5% while putting up a career-best in rating (107.7), TD percentage (5.1%), and average yards per attempt (8.4). In addition, Seattle scores 26.1 points per game, ranking fifth in the NFL.

As great as Smith has been, the Seahawks have been even better when running the ball. Seattle is second in the NFL with 5.5 rushing yards per attempt, led by new starting running back Kenneth Walker. The Michigan State product took over for incumbent starter Rashaad Penny after the ladder suffered a season-ending knee injury. Walker hit the ground running, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt and four touchdowns.

Seattle needs every ounce of offense, given how poor the other side of the ball has played. The Seahawks' defense is 26th or worst in the NFL in points allowed per game, net yards per attempt, and rushing yards allowed. Despite keeping the Arizona Cardinals to a measly nine points, Seattle has allowed opponents to score 23 or more points in five of the other six weeks.

New York Giants vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Prediction

It's tough to fade a New York Giants team that continues to roll through anyone in their way. The Seahawks, on the other hand, have been excellent on offense and go against a New York defense with many issues in the front seven. Seattle should have a little problem moving the ball, especially with star WR DK Metcalf expected to suit up on Sunday. Unfortunately, for Seattle, they don't have an answer for Saquan. Expect both running attacks to rip off big runs in a high-scoring affair.

Prediction: Over 44.5 (-110)
