Amanda Anisimova vs Linda Noskova preview
After a first-round bye, Amanda Anisimova will take on Linda Noskova in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open on Friday.
Anisimova started the season with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Veronika Kudermetova in the first round of the Adelaide International 1. She competed in another tournament in the same city the following week and fell in the qualifying rounds. However, the American got a second shot as a lucky loser.
Anisimova knocked out Liudmila Samsonova in the first round, but lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia afterwards. Marta Kostyuk then sent her packing in the opening round of the Australian Open.
Anisimova next competed at the Dubai Tennis Championships. She started her campaign on a winning note by ousting veteran Vera Zvonareva in the first round. The 21-year-old lost to Victoria Azarenka in three sets in the following round.
Noskova, meanwhile, was up against Irina Camelia Begu in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday. The latter was off to a fast start and jumped to a 3-1 lead, but the Czech youngster leveled the score soon enough. The duo remained steady on serve after that as they took the set into a tie-break.
Noskova was the first to reach a set point, but ended up wasting it. Begu had a set point of her own after that and fumbled as well. The teenager held her nerve on her next set point to clinch the opener.
Noskova quickly raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set. Begu showed some signs of resistance by saving three match points for a hold of serve. The 18-year-old closed out the proceedings in the next game to win the match 7-6(7), 6-1.

After a rather consistent 2022 season, Anisimova's results this year have been far from impressive. With just three victories under her belt this season, the American has really struggled to put her best foot forward.
Noskova, on the other hand, is in the midst of a breakthrough season. She has already reached her maiden WTA final, cracked the top 50 in the rankings and bagged a couple of top-10 scalps. The teenager dispatched a tricky opponent in the form of Begu in the first round.
The opening set was a close affair, but once Noskova claimed it, she stamped her authority on the match. She'll need to maintain the same intensity against Anisimova as well.
