Emma Raducanu makes honest self-assessment, says she is not even at half her capacity as a player

Emma Raducanu made an honest self-assessment after her loss to Iga Swiatek in the ongoing BNP Paribas Open. The British player opined that she was not even at half her capacity as a player.

Raducanu lost to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek 3-6, 1-6 in the Round of 16 at Indian Wells. In her post-match press conference, she gave a sneak peek into her self-assessment and said she was only at 35% of what she hoped to be in the future.

"I would honestly say like 35%," she said.

Throwing more light into how she interacts with her team on where she thinks she is right now, Raducanu said she is starting to do the 'right work' and added that there was a very long way to go for her.

"Yeah, like when I'm telling you I haven't trained, like I haven't trained (smiling). Physically I feel like that's going to be one of my biggest assets. My team has spoken about it. I think that I'm going to be, like, one of the best athletes on the tour, and that's going to be a big part of my game. Yeah, I would say there is a very long way to go, but I'm definitely starting the right work now," she opined.

Emma Raducanu lost to Iga Swiatek 3-6, 1-6 in the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Raducanu, ranked World No. 77 now, opined that Swiatek was "much further ahead" of her at the moment.

"Overall, I feel like physically she is much further ahead than I am at the moment. I think I was able to stay competitive in the beginning of the first set, and then I think the first three games took, like, over 20 minutes. We were having some pretty epic rallies, and I think my defense got better. But that meant me running (sic)," she said in a post-match press conference.

The 20-year-old has been sidelined with injuries and illnesses since the Australian Open. She defeated 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open before going down to Swiatek.

Prior to the defeat, however, Raducanu earned three straight wins on the tour for only the second time since her historic 2021 US Open title run.
