Wimbledon towels available for Indian fans from next year

The Championships - Wimbledon 2013: Day One

With this year’s Wimbledon being the most disappointing of them all (at least for Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer fans), there is some good news on which the Indian fans can cheer upon. The towels used by the likes of Federer, Nadal or Sharapova would be available for sale even in India from next year.

Welspun, a Mumbai-based company, who are responsible for supplying Christy towels, have got the permission to retail them in India as well by the Wimbledon authorities.

These Christy towels for Wimbledon would also be available at the Wimbledon site during the course of the event. “While for the rest of the year, (Wimbledon) Museum shop which is open for visitors all year round would also sell these towels,” says Welspun Chairman BK Goenka.

The towels are nothing less than a souvenir. Novak Djokovic, the number one tennis player in the world, keeps a stockpile of these towels.

“Wimbledon is the most recognizable tennis tournament in the world,” Djokovic said. “And the colours are nice.”

Welspun in 2006 acquired CHT Holding Ltd, which was the holding company of the Britain’s leading towel brand, Christy. These towels have been manufactured and majority portion of the quantity have been shipped from the Vapi Factory in Gujrat of Welspun India Ltd, the official said.

Fans can also acquire these Wimbledon towels also at the Sportskeeda Store.
