The Chinese men's junior team won a bronze medal at men's team pursuit competition on Sunday, the fifth medal China won in the World Junior Speed Skating Championships 2016.

The Chinese team clocked three minutes and 59.11 seconds, losing to South Koreans and Canadians by 4.64 seconds and 0.82 seconds. The medal was the second surprise Chinese men's juniors had brought to spectators at home with the first surprise being the silver they won on Saturday at the men's team sprint, reports Xinhua.

"In fact, we have prepared for the two team competitions, over 20 skaters trained with us in these days, the results were not very surprising," said Zhang Chuang, a member of the medal-winning team.

"Chinese juniors did very well in the World Championships, we expect them to do better in 2022 Winter Olympics when they will be seniors at that time," said Li Jiajun, who is the team China's official.

In the women's team pursuit, China only took the fourth place while the Netherlands won the gold.
