A Randy Orton v Cody Rhodes feud in the making?

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton first got acquainted as members of ‘The Legacy’ in 2008, a relationship which saw some of the best segments in WWE’s recent history.

Who could forget Rhodes helping Orton handcuff Triple H to the ring before he DDT’d Stephanie McMahon?

Or Rhodes holding Batista down as Orton tore his arm out its shoulder socket?

These were arguably some of the most entertaining moments of Orton’s career, and some of the moments which helped to elevate Rhodes to his current level in WWE.

Moments which, if recreated, could not only boost the careers of both men, but put WWE’s dying tag team division back on the map.

Cody Rhodes has achieved a lot since his split from Orton and DiBiase as part of Legacy in 2010.

Not only has Rhodes remoulded his character into something worth watching, but he has also improved himself immensely in the ring, with a microphone, and in the gym.

Orton however, continued his fantastic singles career after the split, winning both the WWE Title on RAW and the World Title on SmackDown.

However, both currently seem to be in somewhat of a slump.

Rhodes has lost the Intercontinental Championship twice in two months and does not seem quite ready enough for a main event push just yet.

On the other hand, Orton is currently suspended for sixty days and his face character has well and truly grown stale.

With this said, there is no better time for Rhodes and Orton to join forces again in order to help each other’s careers and WWE’s ratings.

A lot has changed since Legacy were in their prime, however with Rhodes and Orton now competing alongside each other as equals, it could once again make for some really interesting match ups and segments.

Firstly, Rhodes and Orton have history.

They have shown before that they have chemistry in the ring together, and as a joint force competing for tag team gold it would raise the standard of tag team competition in WWE.

Secondly, it will see the return of heel Orton – a character Orton has himself has admitted he prefers and one a lot of his fans prefer as well.

A combination of the old Viper and the new, more aggressive Cody Rhodes is something which would go hand and hand perfectly.

Similar to the chemistry Edge and Orton shared in 2006 and 2007 as part of Rated-RKO.

Lastly, when Rhodes and Orton inevitably split again, it will put Rhodes in far better stride to go straight to the top of WWE’s main event scene – just like it did for Orton when Rated-RKO split.

It is obvious Rhodes can achieve main event status without Orton’s help, but together it would put the two in the most interesting program either of them have been in since the dissolution of Legacy.

Obviously, WWE creative will probably not go in this direction, but why shouldn’t they?

If the segments the two produce are half as entertaining as they were as part of Legacy then it could make for some great television.

Neither man has anything to lose.
