Top 10 Talking Points: WWE Super Smackdown 21/2/2012

The controversial ending to the show has left many wanting to know what’s next in the Teddy Long-John Laurinaitis saga. There were plenty of key moments on the show upon which I would shed light in this article.

1. Daniel Bryan and The Miz on the same page

Who would have thought that this would be a possibility when a relatively inexperienced Miz was made the pro of Daniel Bryan in season 1 of NXT. Since then, the careers of both men have taken contrasting routes to reach the point where they are now. The Miz had stayed heel throughout but Daniel Bryan has successfully morphed into a sadistic heel character. Putting these two in a tag-team might be a good idea. But, given the track record of Miz’s tag-team partners in the past, will Daniel Bryan have to endure the same if at all they form a team in future? Little Jimmy whispered in my ears that Daniel Bryan is gonna get got, if that happens.

2. Sheamus vs The Miz

An impromptu match between Sheamus and The Miz ended in a victory for the Great White. His new finishing move that he has been using since his Royal Rumble victory looks great. The match was intense with both men in an aggressive mode. The Miz tried to work on Sheamus’ arms but couldn’t succeed in getting the win. His losing streak continues. The commentators did a fair job by shedding light on The Miz’s desire to get involved in a match at this year’s Wrestlemania. It is still unclear whether he will or will not be involved in Wrestlemania.

3. The Great Khali vs Drew McIntyre

A very short squash match in which Khali emerged as the winner. What are they doing with McIntyre’s character? How long will he continue to job? He desperately needs a change of character and a new storyline if he is to get over with the crowd.

4. David Otunga once again gets the better of Ezekiel Jackson in round 2

David Otunga was impressive once again as he defeated Ezekiel Jackson in a singles match. It will be interesting to see whether this push will be fruitful for his career as a professional wrestler.

5. Big Show vs Mark Henry

The two giants clashed in a singles match because of Big Show’s punch in the face of Mark Henry, last week. A slugfest between the behemoths was about to reach its climax as Big Show hit the spear on Henry. But Show’s stalker Cody Rhodes came out and cost the match for Big Show and eventually it ended in a no contest.

6. Cody Rhodes costs Big Show again

Cody Rhodes embarrassed Big show by showing an embarrassing clip from Big Show’s Sumo Wrestling match. Big Show did not consider it funny at all and left the ring in pursuit of Rhodes. This led to a count-out victory for Mark Henry in the match. It seems like Cody Rhodes will go against Big Show at Wrestlemania.

7. Team Show Off in the making?

Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler defeated the newly formed combo of Kofi Kingston and R-Truth. It is likely that these tag-teams will last until or after Wrestlemania, till the creative comes up with new feuds for them as individual Wrestlers.

8. CM Punk‘s awesome promo

CM Punk cut an awesome promo backstage before his Champion vs Champion match against Daniel Bryan. He addressed several issues like his preferred General Manager, his Wrestlemania opponent Chris Jericho and his opponent for the night Daniel Bryan. I really liked this promo. It was witty and comical.

9. Champion vs Champion

This match was a treat to watch. Both men with excellent technical skills put on a hell of a fight. It would have been much better if there a concrete finish without interruptions by the general manager. But it would have made one champion look bad which is why they went ahead with the draw finish. It was the ideal way to book it but the match finish was overshadowed by the tussle between the General Managers.

10. Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis feud over match result

The post main event tussle between Smackdown GM Teddy Long and Raw GM John Laurinaitis has become a developing story over the past few weeks. The concluding moments of Smackdown were comedy gold when Teddy threw his blazer on Johnny and backed off from the ring. It will be interesting to see who comes on top in this feud of powerful people.
