WWE title match added to Night of Champions, more

In an announcement that should shock absolutely no one, the WWE Championship match for Night of Champions has been made official, and it will see CM Punk defending his title against John Cena in somewhat of a rematch from Summerslam.

This match was teased a couple of weeks ago on Monday Night RAW, when Punk told Cena he could have the championship match at Night of Champions, but certain conditions would be applied (those were never listed). Cena basically responded with Punk no longer being the man Cena once respected, and more or less saying that if he had to jump through hoops to get a shot at Punk and the gold, that it wasn’t worth it.

Despite that, this past Monday night on RAW, General Manager AJ Lee made the announcement that CM Punk vs. John Cena for the title at NoC is now official, whether Punk wants it or not. At the moment, this appears to be a straight-forward one-on-one match, but considering what happened a couple weeks ago, do not be surprised if a stipulation or two are added into the match before the PPV event happens.

As for who will win, although I usually like to keep my predictions to a separate column just before the PPV event happens, I can tell you right now that Cena fans are most likely going to be disappointed. Although Punk and Cena are supposed to feud for the remainder of the year, the current plan is to have Punk holding onto the belt until at least the Royal Rumble (where he would defend against The Rock).

In other news, Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd have officially formed a tag team on Friday Night Smackdown!, calling themselves “International Airstrike”. The two began forming a regular team earlier this year, but it was cut short when Gabriel was injured. However, both men are healthy now and looking to make a run at the WWE Tag Team titles. They were involved in the title scene last week on SD!, and are facing The Prime-Time Players (Titus O’Neil and Darren Young) this coming Friday night on the show.

Also this week, current WWE diva Cameron (one of the Funkadactyls, along with Naomi) was arrested on a charge of Driving Under Influence (DUI), and was later released on a $500 bond. While this isn’t anything special, as several wrestlers have been arrested for alcohol-related incidents many times over the years, an interesting note has come out of this. Not only did Cameron (real name: Ariane Andrew) refuse to take a breathalyzer test according to the police report, but the official report also lists her employer as Wells Fargo, with her position being listed as “Sales Associate”.
