5 reasons why a Bayley heel turn makes sense

Does a heel turn make the most sense in Bayley's future?

She is a former NXT women's champion and a former Raw women's champion. During her time in WWE, Bayley has been loved for her fun and easy-going nature that appears reflective of whom she is in real-life. Her bright and colourful attire arises from her admiration of former WWE champion the late 'Macho Man' Randy Savage. Bayley has always appeared to be passionate about wrestling.

However, over the past several months, going back to when she lost her Raw women's championship, it appears as though Bayley's naïve nature is something fans may have found tiresome, something they may care very much for anymore. It was as though she was being made to look foolish.

After a while, everyone has to have their breaking point, and in the case of Bayley, in order to breathe new life into her character, a heel turn may just be the way to go. The clean babyface needs to cross the line in order for others to care. Here are five reasons a Bayley heel turn makes sense.

#5 Her character has grown stale

Bayley hasn't evolved since her debut on Raw

When Bayley first came to NXT, she was as a fresh-faced babyface that simply seemed naïve, unaware of the nature of those around her. Her inability to judge different characters often made her seem almost too wholesome. However, as time went on, fans began more and more to gravitate towards her.

She endeared herself to fans more and more by simply being true to herself. She was so completely selfless and easy-going that she was unlike any other women on the roster. During her time in NXT, she was beloved by all, especially after she captured the NXT women's championship, something that fans loved and felt a part of when it happened.

When she was called up, fans thought that what was successful in NXT would continue for her, on the Raw roster. The problem is that her appeal seems to have run its course, and everything that made her special doesn't connect with the fans like it once did. She appears to have grown rather stale.

#4 She is being booed already

One babyface character that can easily be compared to Bayley is John Cena. Many have often referred to Cena as the most polarizing character in WWE next to Roman Reigns. Now, Bayley appears to be heading down that path. Many have seen that Bayley has lost a little direction with her character.

Whether that means she isn't connecting like she once did, or fans have grown tired of her, the once apparent adulation and cheers she received has changed to a mix of cheers and jeers.

If she is already receiving jeers, then it doesn't help her cause to try to continue on being a face. So rather than staying the course, creative may have to be more observant as to how fans are reacting to her. The best choice would be to embrace those jeers, change the direction of her character, and become the heel that deserves that hostility.

#3 Could eventually turn back to face: Heels who turn face are often the most popular faces

It's hard to see a plan to turn a character heel having benefits long-term, but in the case of Bayley, a heel turn now may help down the road. In the immediate future, a heel turn would leave it open for her to have matches against other faces on the roster that otherwise may not happen.

Look at the most recent turn of The Usos: when Jimmy and Jey wore face paint and embraced their Samoan roots it was welcomed and enjoyed by the fans. However, as time passed, fans grew tired of their gimmick, the bright colours they wore in the ring and how they came to the ring celebrating their heritage by performing ancestral chants, or Haka.

When they embraced the jeers and changed direction through a heel turn, we witnessed Usos that were more authentic and reflective of who they were now rather than who they had been.

Fans are now loving the Uso penitentiary, and they have transitioned from heels to once again beloved faces, though with very different character. A heel turn for Bayley could ultimately result down the road in her becoming a more popular face than she is right now.

#2 The Sami Zayn Analogy

Could the underdog from the underground achieved now on Smackdown Live be a good enough reason to change the character?

Much like the comparison to the polarizing nature of John Cena, Bayley has a quality that can be compared to a male competitor on SmackDown Live. Whether it was during his time in NXT, on Raw, or his early transition onto SmackDown Live, Sami Zayn continued to do everything in his power to put on great matches and receive the adulation of fans.

His in-ring work and demonstration of the heart were undeniable. Fans were able to connect with him as he showed true sacrifice when he stepped into the ring with those not only bigger but often stronger than him.

When Zayn came to Smackdown Live, it felt as though it would have been his best opportunity to succeed, and to be used in feuds with another top talent. Through it all, he was the consummate face. However, eventually, he was tired of being passed over and having to sit idly as others were elevated around him.

It made sense for his character to change direction, as simply doing the right thing ultimately didn't help him. For Bayley, having to sit idly and be passed over is enough to make the hugger completely snap and do what is right for her, rather than what is right for her, friendships.

#1 Bayley-face/Sasha-heel already done in NXT -- a different dynamic on the main roster would make sense

A change of character would be a welcomed change in her relationship with Banks.
A change of character would be a welcomed change in her relationship with Banks.

In every relationship, there is someone that has a little bit more of an edge to their character than the other one. When it came to Sasha and Charlotte, it was Banks who early on appeared to be the more cunning and ruthless of the two.

When it came to Sasha and Bayley, it was once again 'The Boss' that would seek to do whatever was needed in order to win the match. During their time in NXT, Sasha and Bayley had a rivalry with Banks being the heel who didn't just discuss how good she was, but how much better she was than Bayley.

Since both have been together on Raw, the one constant has been their 'friendship'. However, instead of having Sasha turn on her 'friend' because she ultimately wants to succeed, and replicating that face-heel dynamic from NXT, it would be a different dynamic to the relationship if Bayley was the one to turn on Sasha.

As a way to keep the character somewhat similar to how she has often been presented, Bayley could mercilessly attack Sasha, leave her lying, and then before leaving sit her up and hug her tightly showing 'remorse.'
