5 WWE superstars that need to main event a pay-per-view in 2018

Raw and Smackdown Live is brimming with main event stars.

A pay-per-view is the culmination of a long stretch of storytelling, and the bouts on the match card are often the most critical angles in the company.

Therefore, while the opening match sets the atmosphere for the show, the middle portion of the pay-per-view keeps the viewer's attention, but, the main event of the night is what wrestling fans have been waiting to witness.

While that might be true in theory, many of WWE’s biggest pay-per-views over the last few years have featured some of the most significant matches in the company's history buried deep in the mid-card, while the main event featured less than exciting showdowns.

A more recent example of the main event capping of a pay-per-view in disappointing fashion was Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 34.

Therefore, this year WWE need to start grooming certain wrestlers for main event glory, as many of these superstars have become better versions of themselves over the last few years by consistently improving in every aspect.

Moreover, now they are more than capable of closing any of one of WWE’s pay-per-views in a spectacular manner.

#1 The Miz

The Miz has earned another run with the WWE Title

Hopefully, when WWE drafted the Miz over to Smackdown Live, they did so with a big push in line for the most exceptional IC Champion of the last decade.

There is no other heel than the Miz in the entire company that has continuously gotten better every time he walked through that curtain.

Miz has proved he can carry a programme by himself with his natural abilities in the ring and on the mic.

Therefore, last time Miz was a blue brand superstar, fans were clamouring for another WWE Title reign for the A-lister, and this is the time WWE must deliver.

Once Miz has wrapped up his narrative with Daniel Bryan, he should head straight to the main event scene and give Smackdown Live a genuinely despicable heel World Champion.

#2 Drew McIntyre

2018 could be the year that Drew McIntyre arrives in WWE

When Drew Mcintrye stormed the ring this week on Raw and laid a vicious beating on babyface group Titus Worldwide, fans were not booing in displeasure but cheering in disbelief.

That disbelief was due to witnessing the former Chosen One make his triumphant return to the main roster after falling from grace many years ago.

This is a moment McIntyre has earned. Therefore, with Mcintrye teaming with fellow overlooked superstar Dolph Ziggler, WWE should not waste time in getting these two superstars off to a hot start on Raw, as the brand could use a refreshing heel team wrecking havoc.

However, while teaming with Ziggler is currently McIntyre's booking plan, he is the main event star WWE needs on Monday Nights.

Therefore, it is not very difficult picturing McIntyre standing across the ring from Lesnar or Reigns in the main event of any pay-per-view this year, as those would be the building blocks for a new top-tier superstar.

#3 Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy's climb to the pinnacle of Smackdown Live must happen in 2018

When Jeff Hardy returned to Smackdown Live, his arrival sent shockwaves of nostalgia throughout the WWE Universe, and those shockwaves are emotions of excitement, delight, and fulfilment to see Hardy perform as a singles star once again.

There is no denying that “the charismatic enigma” is one of the last entirely over babyfaces left in the WWE.

Hence, while Hardy is the United States Champion at the moment, there is no reason why WWE might keep him in the blue brand’s mid-card for a long stretch, as Hardy is thoroughly over with the fans, which means WWE obviously has another push lined up for him.

Whether it is against AJ Styles or Shinsuke Nakamura, the Charismatic Enigma deserves one more run as a top main event star in the company.

#4 Ember Moon

Ember Moon is a future Women's champion

Possibly the best NXT call-up of the 2018 Superstar Shakeup, Ember Moon is as every bit talented as WWE say she is.

Down at Full Sail, Moon was the standard bearer for women’s wrestling as she was able to put on masterpieces in the squared circle, make her opponents look strong and get fans to invest in the story she is telling.

Therefore, while WWE might be focusing on Ronda Rousey as the top women’s athlete in WWE today, a pure wrestling talent like Moon should be given that same treatment, as there are several money programmes WWE can build around her and certain megastars in the Raw women's division.

Matches such as Moon vs. a newly rejuvenated heel Sasha Banks, Moon vs. Bayley or even Moon vs. Jax would all be good matches to close out any pay-per-view and mark a milestone in WWE women’s evolution.

#5 Andrade "Cien" Almas

Almas is a future main eventer on WWE's main roster

Andrade “Cien” Almas is money, and that is something Triple H understood when he plucked Almas from the mid-card in NXT and made him a main event talent.

Almas went from a bland babyface to white-hot heel during his time in the yellow brand, and now that he has made the transition from NXT to Smackdown Live WWE cannot mess up this acquisition on the main roster.

Smackdown Live’s roster is loaded with depth and Almas finds himself in a unique spot on the show, as the different abilities, he possesses can allow him to excel on the blue brand.

Therefore, it is just a matter of time before Almas finds his way to the WWE Title picture, as he has the look, the charisma, the in-ring ability and perfect heel manager to succeed.
