What's the story?

WWE's talent cutting spree continued today as Chinese prospect Leo Gao was released from his contract, according to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet.

In case you didn't know...

Gao is said to be a popular figure at the performance centre and the NXT locker room, so much so that WWE has an article '5 reasons why Leo Gao could be your favourite recruit' on their website.

A hilarious video of Gao doing an impression of Stone Cold Steve Austin straight from the Performance Centre will give you a clear idea of how over he is behind the scenes. Check it out:

Gao's release comes on, the heels of the departure of SAnitY member Sawer Fulton.

The heart of the matter

Sadly for Gao, his never really made his NXT TV debut. A neck injury suffered during training a couple of months back played a big role in his and the company's decision to part ways.

He took to Twitter and commented on his exit:

What's next?

The wrestler's injury is said to be a serious one, which possibly rules an in-ring career. It's an unfortunate fact that neck injuries are notorious for ending careers.

However, there is always a possibility to defy the odds and we can only hope Gao does the same.

Author's take

Though I know nothing about the outgoing NXT star's in-ring credentials, he seems to have the charisma and lovable personality to succeed in the business.

We at Sportskeeda wish him all the best for his future endeavours and a smooth rehabilitation from injury.
