What's the story?

It was recently reported that Batista was set to partner with Ronda Rousey for her debut match at WrestleMania 34 against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, but obviously, the WWE ended up going for Kurt Angle. So what happened to Batista returning?

In case you didn't know...

Ronda Rousey had several rumoured partners in the build-up to her match announcement against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, including The Rock and even Braun Strowman until Kurt Angle was announced.

The heart of the matter

So what happened to the talks between Batista and WWE and why did he end up not being Ronda Rousey's partner as planned? Well, Pro Wrestling Sheet have the scoop on what led to Batista not appearing at WrestleMania 34.

We’re told the last conversation they had was in January and the actor had a strong feeling he was booked for Mania, but then he never heard from Triple H or anyone in WWE again.

There you have it! It seems that Batista thought he was actually booked for 'Mania all the way up until January, however, it gets worse! Pro Wrestling Sheet goes on to suggest that Batista literally didn't hear from WWE again and didn't find out he had been replaced by Kurt Angle until the rest of us found out when it was announced

Two months later, Angle was announced as Rousey’s partner — without so much as a courtesy call to say they were going in a different direction or an update when Bautista reached out to them.

What's next?

Batista is quickly becoming a big star in the film industry thanks to his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Blade Runner. His next appearance will be Avengers: Infinity War which is set to be one of the biggest films of all time. That being said, he has expressed his desire to return to wrestling.

Author's take

It's bizarre that the WWE would pass up the opportunity to bring Batista back given how high-profile he will be heading into the release of Avengers: Infinity War.
