Has bringing back The Rock really been beneficial for the WWE?

Press Conference To Announce A Major International Event At MetLife Stadium

Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson’s return to the WWE sounded like an extremely good proposition for them, mainly because of increased revenue. WWE were assured of the fact that when The Rock returned, ticket sales would sore and the ratings would see a gradual increase, and all these are indeed happening. But as they say, it isn’t always about the money. There are other aspects of the company that need to given importance.

As for the WWE, the roster morale seems to have dropped after the return of The Rock. Several wrestlers are feeling distraught, mainly because a person who makes yearly appearances gets the larger share of the pie. Imagine CM Punk for a moment. After working his tail off for years and holding onto the title for 435 days, The Rock simply comes in, throws out a few funny one-liners and gets hold of the title? I mean does the WWE ever care about the full-time wrestlers? I feel the WWE should look at the ones who are working the entire year for the company rather than concentrate on ones who make random appearances only to boost their revenue and ratings.

Frankly, I do not hate The Rock. He was, is and still will be one of my favourite wrestlers from the Attitude Era. But when we talk of The Rock, I only feel that he is being unfair to all those who aspire to reach his stature one day. It is the dream of every wrestler today to experience stardom in WWE like The Rock, and it would be relevant if the WWE made efforts in making that happen.

Coming back to whether The Rock’s return was beneficial or not, I have to sadly disagree that it has caused more damage than repair. According to several rumors on the Internet and reports from PWTorch.com, there is a huge clamour backstage among the wrestlers regarding Rock’s return.

Several wrestlers feel that The Rock did not look in good shape in the Royal Rumble and had a lot of ring rust that he now needs to overcome in Elimination Chamber. The wrestlers also feel that The Rock is simply using the WWE as a platform to promote his movies better.

There is also news that The Rock stays isolated backstage. He has zero response from the present locker room, and this could be mainly because of the added preference that he receives from the company. However, there are a few rumours that says that The Rock is going out of the way to help improve his relationship with wrestlers by meeting them and providing them useful advice. While some are okay with his ideas, several wrestlers have not taken it too well.

With all that said, I feel that people shouldn’t blame The Rock and should instead transfer the rants at WWE. Even though Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar make select appearances, there isn’t much resentment towards it, and this is mainly because they are wrestlers who are being made to put over younger talent. I’m not saying that The Rock isn’t ready to do that, but the WWE isn’t using him the right way. Instead of The Rock facing Cena again at WrestleMania this year, it would be great to see someone like CM Punk beat him and get hold of the WWE title.
