The real reason behind the title changing hands was the fact that Big Show’s contract with the WWE was coming to an end. Sources say that WWE and Big Show could not come to terms on a new contract. With time running out, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon made the decision to strip the belt off the Big Show and crown Alberto Del Rio as the new Champion.
