The Rock gets sued over alleged plagiarism of TV show idea

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was not the first wrestler to step into Hollywood, but he is by far, the most accomplished. With a handful of successful movies in his kitty, The Rock has made his bones in Hollywood. He’s taken to a new medium to exhibit his talents – the small screen.

The Rock’s TV series,’Ballers’, premiered this June and has been well-received by audiences. The show is a sports dramedy that revolves around The Rock’s character, an ex-NFL player-turned-financial advisor. ‘Ballers’ has done so well that it has been renewed for a second season.

But in the midst of all this revelry comes a reality check. Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton have filed a case against The Rock, Hollywood heavyweight Mark Wahlberg and HBO, claiming that the premise behind the show is theirs.

The pair allege that they, along with their manager, approached The Rock and Mark Wahlberg in 2007 with a show called “Off Season”. A deal was close to being struck but hit a bump when Silas and Littleton insisted that their names appear under the “Created by” portion of the credits.

They are seeking unspecified damages in compensation, but HBO told TMZ, “We are confident the case has no merit.” And all this just a day after The Rock welcomed a baby girl into the world. Well, you know what they – “There’s no business like show business!”
