The Money In The Bank ladder match is a revolutionary concept introduced by the WWE. The idea, which was pitched by Chris Jericho, has become one of the most exciting matches in the business today.

The match, which debuted way back in 2005 at Wrestlemania 21, now has a pay-per-view of its own. The winner of the match is guaranteed an opportunity to face the champion of either brand at any place and time. This gave the holder of the contract an opportunity to cash in his opportunity to the champion when the latter least expects it.

We have seen multiple superstars cash in the money in the bank contract to become the world champion and some superstars fail to successfully cash in the contract.

Now let us take a look at the most well-executed in WWE's history.

#5 Dean Ambrose - Money in the bank 2016

Some might disagree with this choice, but the fact that all three members of The Shield were WWE champion at the same night instantly pushes this into the top five.

Two years after their break up, two members of the Shield went on to be WWE champions. Roman Reigns was set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the returning Seth Rollins and in the same night, Dean Ambrose went on to win the Money in the Bank Contract in a good match against five other superstars.

Reigns failing the WWE wellness policy led to the Big Dog losing the WWE championship clean to the Architect in a good back and forth encounter. Dean Ambrose gave Rollins a taste of his own medicine when he successfully cashed in his money in the bank contract at the same night which he had won it, to win his first WWE championship.

The way the story was told was very interesting as all three members of the Shield were WWE champion at the same night with the Lunatic Fringe having the last laugh.

What makes it even more interesting is that Seth Rollins won his first WWE title by pinning Roman Reigns and Reigns won his first WWE title by pinning Dean Ambrose. Ambrose then won his first WWE title by pinning Rollins. Like the saying goes, it all comes full circle.

#4 Dolph Ziggler - RAW 8th April 2013

No, we are not talking about the Dolph Ziggler who has been pushed to glorified jobber status and being is being used to put over the new NXT call-ups. We are talking about the Dolph Ziggler, who as per my opinion, was the most over superstar in Smackdown at the time even though he was being portrayed as a heel.

Dolph Ziggler won the Smackdown Money in the Bank ladder match at the titular pay per view on 15th July 2012. The journey to his cash in was well portrayed. He escaped from unsuccessfully cashing in the contract on the same night against Sheamus. Things got worse for the Show Off when he had to defend the contract twice as he was forced to put it on the line first against Chris Jericho in a Contract vs Career match and against John Cena in a TLC match.

After going through all the obstacles, he finally cashed in the contract to win the world heavyweight championship, on Alberto Del Rio after the latter's handicap match win against Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. The reaction was ecstatic as the arena was filled with the thunderous cheers of the WWE universe.

It is highly unlikely that Dolph Ziggler will receive a similar push now, but it is such a shame that a superstar of Ziggler's calibre is being used as an enhancement talent.

#3 Edge - New Year's Revolution, January 2006

The very first money in the bank cash in takes the 3rd spot. Edge won the first money in the bank ladder match at Wrestlemania 21 in a gruelling contest. The ultimate opportunist overcame the odds and retrieved the contract to get an open ticket to the top of the mountain.

After a gruesome elimination chamber match, a busted up John Cena was ready to leave the arena with the WWE championship. But Vince McMahon's music hit and he came out to announce that Edge was cashing in his money in the bank contract.

The fans were treated to a first time experience as Edge took advantage of a bloody Cena and shocked the world to win his first WWE championship.

#2 Rob Van Dam - ECW One Night Stand 2006

Vince McMahon decided to bring back ECW as a full-time show immediately after Wrestlemania 22, which lead to Rob Van Dam winning the second money in the bank ladder match in history. However, since both the WWE champion and the money in the bank holder were babyfaces at the time, WWE couldn't do a surprise cash in like that of the previous year.

Rob Van Dam announced that he would be cashing in his money in the bank at ECW one night stand 2006. In front of a notorious Pro-ECW crowd, in a good back and forth match RVD captured the WWE championship defeating John Cena after Edge involved in the match spearing Cena through a table.

The sight of RVD celebrating his championship win with all the ECW legends was a treat to watch and the crowd reaction was deafening as well.

#1 Seth Rollins- Wrestlemania 31

Seth Rollins shocked the world at Wrestlemania 31

What else was it going to be, Seth Rollins shocked the world when he cashed in his money in the bank contract on the main event of Wrestlemania 31 interfering in the match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

After aligning himself with The Authority by betraying his Shield brothers. Rollins was pushed to the moon. He showcased his talent as a brilliant heel, taking all the shortcuts possible and using The Authority's power to get want he wants.

There are three reasons why this is the Best Cash in of all time:

  1. It was the first time a superstar cashed in a mid way in a match.
  2. It was the first time a superstar cashed in on the main event of Wrestlemania or on Wrestlemania in general.
  3. The opponents were not seriously injured or were not unable to defend themselves. (This is Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns we are talking about).

When WWE made the decision to have Rollins cash in the contract in the main event, it created nothing but shock waves among the WWE universe and the sight itself was very pleasing to watch
