Big E had words of high praise for The Usos

What’s the story?

In an appearance on 107.7 The Bone, Big E spoke to Baby Huey and Bimbo Jimbo on a myriad of topics.

Big E expounded upon The New Day’s merchandising power in WWE, besides also discussing the team’s success, chemistry with The Usos, and more.

In case you didn’t know…

The New Day comprises Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, and has been performing as a stable in WWE since 2014.

The group initially portrayed a gospel gimmick, however, eventually transitioned to that of an over-the-top, singing, dancing faction—functioning as heels and then as faces, since they began receiving highly positive reactions from the fans.

The heart of the matter

Big E asserted that he and his New Day stable-mates noticed how there were several similar black shirts and dark apparel that really didn’t stand out from one another, owing to which they came up with The New Day’s bright & colorful merchandise.

Big E recalled that back when their first merchandise item was launched, they weren’t aware of its design, however, after they proved their mettle as regards selling more merchandise, the WWE higher-ups gained trust in them and got them involved in the crafting of The New Day merchandise. He added that he’d love for other WWE Superstars to also reach that point where the WWE trusts them to actively contribute toward what their merch looks like.

Additionally, Big E elucidated that he and his New Day teammates were pleasantly surprised and are grateful for how successful their gimmick has been in the WWE—recalling that when they first started working in the group, they were just three guys trying to stay afloat in the WWE and appear on TV.

Furthermore, Big E spoke about his team’s chemistry with The Usos, adding that wrestling is like jazz; and at times it isn’t about how strong a performer needs to look or how much of one’s moves said performer has to execute, but instead adjusting one’s performance based on the crowd reaction is an important quality—

"From a backstage perspective…you can see the rapport, you can see the chemistry that we have with those guys—there is a real friendship there, and a real brotherhood, and I have known those guys since I was signed…For us to gel so well I think we also see the business and the way matches should work in a very similar way.”

“The ability to feel, to improvise, that ability to kind of ride the rhythm and have an understanding of what kind of reaction we'll get when we do this, or the timing the positioning all of that stuff…I think the Usos have a very similar perspective on what wrestling should be on how great tag team wrestling is done, and I can't thank those guys enough for being the best dance partners imaginable."

What’s next?

The Usos presently hold the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships—as The New Day continue their journey back to the titles in the weeks to come on SmackDown Live.
