Minecraft comes in different versions, but the two most common editions are Java and Bedrock. While the two versions have some differences, most of the gameplay experience remains the same. However, some factors make the Bedrock Edition slightly more difficult than Java. These factors are not direct, meaning that Mojang Studios did not intentionally make Bedrock more difficult.

Out of all the Minecraft editions, Bedrock is considered the most difficult one. It is also the most accessible version of the game as it requires low computing resources, making it run properly on lower-end devices. So let’s explore how the Bedrock edition is harder than the Java Edition.

The basic differences between the Bedrock and Java editions are mostly under the hood of the game. There are some differences in how the world is stored, how commands and mods work, etc. But these technical differences translate to gameplay differences as well. Below, we will explore some reasons why Minecraft Bedrock is harder than Java Edition.

Reason 1: Mobs spawn closer to the player due to the Bedrock version's reduced chunk-load setting. This means that even though the Java and Bedrock editions have the same number of hostile mobs loaded around the player, they will spawn closer to the player in the Bedrock edition.

Another minor point worth noting is that Bedrock Edition is buggy. These bugs can cause unexpected errors that the players might not even notice.

Reason 2: There are some differences in the health points of mobs in both game editions. Consider the Wither as an example. It is one of the most challenging mobs in the game, but it's even tougher to defeat in the Bedrock edition, as it has more health points than the Wither in Java Edition.

The Wither has 300 health points in the Java Edition whereas it has a massive 600 health points in the Bedrock edition. This explains why many players find it so difficult to beat the Wither despite trying their best.

Reason 3: Unlike the Minecraft Java Edition, there is no speed healing in Bedrock. For those unaware, speed healing, as the name suggests, is when the player’s health recovers quickly. This was introduced in the Java Edition with the combat update but sadly not in the Bedrock Edition. So fighting hostile mobs and other players will naturally be more challenging in the Bedrock Edition compared to the Java Edition.

With the upcoming Minecraft 1.21 update Mojang Studios will hopefully make some changes to the Bedrock Edition as well to improve its combat and maybe make it a bit easier.
