The Argentine national basketball team is currently ranked no. 4 in the FIBA world rankings. Among the Americas, Argentina has one of the most successful men’s basketball teams. In the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Japan, Argentina is placed in Group C along with host nation Japan, Slovenia and current world champions Spain. The team’s head coach will be Sergio Hernández and will consist of NBA players like Facundo Campazzo, Leandro Bolmaro, Gabriel Deck, Lucas Vildoza and former NBA veteran Luis Scola. Argentina will play their first game against Slovenia on 26th July at Saitama.

In the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Argentina won the silver medal after their 95-75 defeat to Spain. They are among the four nations to have won a basketball gold medal at the Olympics in the men's category. They won the gold medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics, and have also won the bronze at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. With South America's longest basketball tradition, Argentina is a founding member of the International Federation of Basketball (FIBA).
