French Basketball Federation (FFBB) said in a statement that coach Vincent Collet picked 12 players and 4 reserves for this summer's games. Collet also named four alternate players, who will train with the French team during preparations and can be integrated into the team in case of injury. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will take place from July 23 to Aug. 8 after it was postponed for one year due to the pandemic. France will play in Group A in Tokyo to face the US, Iran and Czech Republic.

At the 2019 FIBA World Cup, France beat a U.S. team lacking NBA superstars in the quarterfinals en route to a second straight bronze medal. France lost to Spain in the last two Olympic quarterfinals, sending Tony Parker into retirement without an Olympic medal. They were the first nation to name its Olympic men’s basketball roster.
