Ben Simmon is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. His unique size and quickness allows him to guard multiple positions. Simmons was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2016 NBA Draft. He was the number one pick coming out of Louisiana State University and was compared to LeBron James because of his size, athleticism, and playmaking ability.

However, where Simmons lacks is his shooting ability. Every player, pundit, fans, and analyst have said that if he develops a jump shot, he can become one of the best players in the league. The fact that Simmons cannot shoot the basketball even after playing for six seasons in the league, it may be time to change that narrative.

It is very surprising how Simmons’ career is diminishing, in front of our own eyes. He went from a three-time All-Star who averaged a near triple-double and a defensive player of the year candidate to somebody who is barely a rotational player at best.

During his first four seasons with the 76ers, Simmons averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.7 assists along with 1.7 steals. He shot 56% from the field.

In the last two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, he is averaging a dreadful 6.9 points, shooting 42.6% from the free-throw line. As the years have passed, Simmons has become more and more scared to take a jump shot.

Ben Simmons Nationality

Ben Simmons’ is originally from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and his parents are Dave and Julie Simmons. Dave Simmons (his father) is an American-Australian who played basketball for the Oklahoma City University, but later moved to Australia to continue playing basketball.

Dave has dual citizenship for both Australia and the United States. Meanwhile his mother, Julie Simmons, is a white Australian.

What Ethnicity is Ben Simmons?

Ben Simmons is biracial. His father, Dave, is an African-American emigrant who has now become a citizen of Australia and his mother, Julia, is a white Australian. Simmons also has five siblings — Melissa, Emily, Liam, Sean, who are his half-brothers and sisters (from his mother’s previous marriage) and his sister Olivia.

Ben Simmons is coming off of a back injury which made him miss a significant amount of time. After missing a concerning amount of games the last two seasons, Simmons is trying to get back to his All-Star level, which may or may not happen.

His confidence was completely demolished after the 2021 playoff matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, where even the fans were booing him for not being able to shoot free-throws. This is arguably the most healthy Simmons has been in a while, and is looking to turn things around before it’s too late.
