NBA Debut and Professional Ascent

Although Bobby Portis's journey to the college level was majestic, he was not a top selection in the NBA draft. Declared for the 2015 NBA draft, Portis had to wait till the 22nd selection to get drafted by the Chicago Bulls. But the entry into the league changed his status to a top-order pro basketball player. Portis's journey into the professional realm began with promise and anticipation. His energy, rebounding prowess, and ability to impact games quickly endeared him to fans.

While Bulls’ selection was for the role player, Portis made his presence felt in the team with important and impactful plays time after time. In 151 games, Poris had just 27 starts, but he averaged 10.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and an assist in 20 minutes of gameplay.

He was traded to the Washington Wizards in mid-season, which hardly affected his role. After a small stint in the Wizards team, he played for the New York Nicks in the 2020 season.

Gaining experience with the three different teams and different approaches to the gameplay, Bobby Portis signed with Milwaukee Bucks in 2020. The choice paid dividends as Portis played with and as a substitute for megastar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Still, with more court time, Portis’ outputs were more visible.

He averages impressive 13 points, and 8.5 rebounds with the star-studded team. In the playoffs, Portis put on important performances for the Bucks to win the 2021 NBA championship. He averaged 9 points, 5 rebounds and a steal in that title-winning run.

With an extension in his contract with the Bucks, Bobby Portis has established himself as a vital player in the Bucks’ plans. Currently aged at 28, Portis is in his prime and will represent the US national team in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
