What team is Dennis Schroder on?

Dennis Schroder is a German veteran point guard who is currently in his 11th NBA season. Born in Braunschweig, Germany, Schroder developed a passion for basketball from a very young age. He initially played for the SG Braunschweig, a farm team of Phantoms Braunschweig.

In the 2013 NBA Draft, Schroder was selected with the 17th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks and made a name for himself as a pesky defender. He was an integral cog of the 2014/15 Hawks team that won 60 games. Soon, he got elevated to the starting role and while the team didn’t see much success, Schroder had some of the best individual years of his career.

In 2018, Schroder was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal involving the 76ers and the Hawks. As he did in Atlanta, he mostly came off the bench for the Thunder, but managed to put himself in a key sixth-man role and was instrumental in most of their regular seasons.

In the playoffs, however, Schroder struggled and the Thunder never made it past the first round in all his seasons there. In the 2021 season, Schroder signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, this time cementing himself as the starting point guard for the team. As the tape followed Schroder’s career, the playoffs again were poor for him and it led to the Lakers not picking up his player option next season. He bounced around between the Rockets and the Celtics before signing back with LA this time on a minimum deal. Following this, Schroder had one of the best playoffs of his career, helping the Lakers beat the Grizzlies and the Warriors before going to the Western Conference Finals, where they fell to eventual champions the Denver Nuggets.

Dennis Schroder currently plays for the Toronto Raptors. He signed on a veteran minimum deal in the 2023 off-season and has now accepted the role of being a mentor for the younger players. He currently comes off the bench behind Immanuel Quickley, and is the Raptors head coach go-to-guy for guarding the opposing team’s lead guard.

Schroder still has a lot to offer and after his contract ends after this year, a lot of teams, mostly playoff teams, would be gunning to get him because of his leadership and tenacity.
