After getting a break in the NBA in 2016, Jones Jr has played for the Phoenix Suns in 2016–2017, Miami Heat (2017 — 2020), Portland Trail Blazers (2020–2021), and the Chicago Bulls (2021–2023). He spent the 2023–2024 season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Over his nine-year NBA career, Derrick Jones Jr. has made two NBA Finals appearances, first with the Miami Heat in 2020 and then with the Mavericks in 2024. During the 2024 playoffs, Jones Jr. played a crucial role in the Mavericks' success, starting all 22 playoff games. His defense, athleticism, and hustle were essential in several key games and clutch situations. In the 2024 playoffs, Derrick Jones Jr. averaged 29.4 minutes per game, contributing 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1 block per game. In the 2024 free agency, Jones Jr. signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
