When you hear the name Giannis Antetokounmpo, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a tall, athletic, and powerful forward who can take the game by the scruff of the neck on his day. He is a dominant force of nature in the NBA and is aptly given the nickname “The Greek Freak.”

That said, it is not all about his physical qualities. The seven-time All-Star also has a mental side to the game which is not a common perception in this cut-throat, competitive league. He has shown his class as a player through his thought process, his eagerness to win and most of all his humility to focus on only the present while shunning his previous accomplishments and restricting any thoughts about future greatness.

However, the 2021 NBA champion and Finals MVP has an all-round game which is helped by his physical attributes such as wingspan, height, vertical ability, and more.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Wingspan

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s wingspan is measured at 7 feet 4 inches while his height is listed at 6 feet 11 inches. With a longer wingspan, it helps him cut down the angles on the court while defending. Couple with his height, he has the necessary attributes to block shots and make steals.

On offense, keeping the ball away from defenders is an added advantage that his longer wingspan provides him. Shooting over his counterpart and dunking or layups tend to be easier for him as well.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Other Attributes

As mentioned earlier, Giannis’ height is listed as 6 feet 11 inches. He has the height of a center in the NBA, but he plays as a power forward. Earlier in his career, Giannis has also played as a small forward. His long strides allow him to cover the full court in just 10 steps, which is almost three steps fewer than the average NBA player.

Antetokounmpo is also one of the finest movers on the court, especially for someone his size. He is fast, agile, and athletic enough to make big plays on both ends of the floor.

One of his most underrated physical aspects has to be his hands. For a typical big man, you would expect him to have large hands, but even by his standards, the two-time league MVP has exceptionally large hands. The average man’s hand size from the thumb to the pinky fingertip is around 7.4 inches, while Giannis’ is at 12 inches. He has the advantage of palming the ball and keeping it out of reach from defenders if required.

How much has Giannis scored?

Up until the end of the 2023-24 NBA season, Giannis has scored a total of 18,502 points in the regular season. He has achieved this feat in just 11 seasons' worth of play time and his career average stands at 23.4 points per game as of October 2024.

It took Giannis a good three years in the league to settle down and start increasing his points average to a respectable figure. He started out finishing his rookie season averaging 6.8 ppg, and slowly increased it each passing year. From the 2016-17 NBA season, Giannis has been scoring above 20 ppg every season.

Furthermore, he has scored at a better rate in the playoffs. Throughout his career, the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year has averaged 26.6 ppg in the postseason.
