As a junior in high school, Quickley averaged 23.7 points and 7.2 assists per game, earning First Team All-Metro honors. His performance led to his selection as a McDonald's All-American. After considering offers from Kansas, Kentucky, and Miami, Quickley chose to play college basketball at the University of Kentucky. He was highly recruited, ranking as the 22nd prospect by Rivals and 25th by ESPN. At Kentucky, his performance earned him SEC Player of the Year honors and a place on the SEC First Team.

Quickley entered the NBA when the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the 25th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who subsequently traded him to the New York Knicks. During the 2023-24 season with the Knicks, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting an impressive 44.8% from the field. His strong performance earned him second place in the Sixth Man of the Year Award voting. In January 2024, Quickley was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he continues to make significant contributions, averaging 13.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
