Randle was talented even before he joined Kentucky as he played in McDonald’s All-American Boys Game as well as the Jordan Brand classic.

While at the Wildcats for only one year (2013-2014), Randle was quite productive. Scoring 24 double-doubles in one season meant that he became the first Kentucky freshman to do so and was a whisker away from equalling Dan Issel’s record of 25 double-doubles the latter having achieved in the 1969-70 season. He played amazingly to be accorded SEC Freshman of the Year alongside being included in the All-SEC First Team. Amid managing Kentucky to the final levels of the NCAA Championship, they only lost to the University of Connecticut. This was also coupled with his nomination as a semi-finalist for the Naismith College Player of the Year award which underlined him as one of college basketball’s stand-out players.
