He attended Villanova University before being selected as the 33rd overall pick in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA draft.
In his rookie season, he played in 73 games, averaging 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team at the end of the season.
