Lonnie Walker

Lonnie Walker IV is an active professional basketball player who is currently playing the position of small forward for the Brooklyn Nets. He made his mark in the NBA when he took over game 4 of the NBA playoffs between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2022-23 season. He dropped 15 points in the fourth quarter and came up with the biggest buckets to give the Lakers a victory over the Warriors. Game 4 is called the “Lonnie Walker” game.

There are some guys in the NBA who have been overlooked for their talent and Walker is one of them. He was one of the most essential pieces for the Lakers in the 2022-23 season. He helped the Lakers make it as far as the Western Conference Finals.

Walker was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2018 NBA draft as the 18th overall pick. He played under Gregg Popovich and the Spurs for four seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. What many fans do not know is that Walker was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school and picked the University of Miami to play for. He was a strong shooting guard who could score on all three levels.

Walker is no scrub. He was always an elite player but due to the lack of playing time, nobody knew what a talented individual he was. His scoring averages have shot up every season and it looks like he is just getting started. This season with the Brooklyn Nets, Walker is averaging 15.4 points, 2.2 assists, and 3.0 rebounds on 51.5 percent shooting from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range. He is also playing the best defense out of all his other seasons averaging 0.6 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.

Lonnie Walker Trade

Walker was a free agent the past off-season but chose to sign with the Brooklyn Nets for $2.3 million on a one year deal. Looking at the postseason heroics that Walker had, some expected him to sign a bigger deal somewhere else but he explained that he likes the young core that the Nets have and is looking forward to building a special relationship with the guys there. While the Nets are not a title contending team, they have a great group of individuals who are very talented.

Walker is 24 years old and is having a career year with the Nets. He has helped fill the void in the shooting guard spot and provides elite scoring opportunities for the Nets.

Lonnie Walker’s position

Walker can play the shooting guard and also the small forward spot. He has all the tools in his bag. He has the size, can score on all three levels, and defend from 1 through 3. He is not afraid of the big moments and is always ready when his number is called.

He remained professional even when he got limited playing time with the Lakers and just waited for his moment. At the time, Lakers’ coach Darvin Ham trusted Walker to make big plays down the stretch and it translated.

With him now on the Nets and to go along with the young core of the team, the Nets could become a serious title contender very soon.
