Luka Doncic is a Slovenian professional basketball guard for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024/25 NBA season. He was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia on February 28, 1999. The Atlanta Hawks drafted Doncic with the third overall pick in 2018, but soon traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Trae Young and a future first-round protected pick.
In just his second season in the league, Luka Doncic averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. With 56 triple-doubles as of October 2023, the four-time All-Star can do it all on the floor. He also became the first NBA player to be given the All-NBA First Team honors in his first or second season since Tim Duncan. In December 2022, Doncic also became the first player in Mavs history to record multiple 50-point games after Dirk Nowitzki. In February of 2025, the Lakers landed the Slovenian superstar in a blockbuster trade that shook the world in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a first-round draft pick. The incident between Luka Doncic and his mother
The legal battle between Luka Doncic and his mother, Mirjam Poterbin, started when Doncic wanted to change his trademark name to “Luka Doncic 7,” to which his mother had the rights. He filed a petition to cancel the trademark and failed. He then tried to file another petition for a new trademark called “Luka Doncic 77.” Unfortunately for him, that was also denied, because it could be confused with the mark owned by his mother. Doncic stated that his mother does not use the trademark in America and has not shown any intention to do so. He further stated that he is not associated with that trademark anymore.
Poterbin did not agree to this and instead argued that she had obtained written permission from her son to use the trademark. Luka Doncic once again tried to cancel the trademark in September, but his mother did not allow it. However, as things stand, it seems the problems between the mother and son have ended after Doncic withdrew his petition in January 2023. (via the Dallas News)
