Michael "Mike" Budenholzer has been the head coach of the Phoenix Suns since May 2024. Prior to joining the Suns, Budenholzer was head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, whom he led to an NBA championship in 2020-21 during his 2018-2023 coaching tenure. He spent the first 19 seasons of his coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs, from 1996, as an alternate video coordinator for two seasons and then as an assistant coach to Gregg Popovich. From 2013 to 2018, he served as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

In 2014-15, Budenholzer won his first NBA Coach of the Year award and led the Hawks to a franchise-record 60 victories, the best record in the East. The media, players, and other coaches often refer to Budenholzer as "Bud" or "Coach Bud.” He was a two-time NBA Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2019, a two-time NBCA Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2020, and the two-time NBA All-Star Game Head Coach in 2015 and 2019.
