Merrill was drafted as the 60th overall pick by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2020 NBA Draft but was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. In the 2020-21 season, Merrill played for the Milwaukee Bucks and was part of the team when they won the NBA championship. Later, Merrill was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played only 6 games and was waived by the team. Merrill signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022, and 2024-25 will be his third season with the franchise.
