Samuel Hoskins Merrill, nickname "Sammy Buckets", is a professional American basketball player who plays in the NBA as a shooting guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers as of March 2025. He was born on May 15, 1996, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Merrill graduated from the Utah State University and played for their college team. In his freshman season, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Merrill's progression can be seen with him improving each season during his college career. He posted 2,197 points, grabbed 475 rebounds, and assisted 477 times. In addition to receiving Mountain West Player of the Year honors in 2020, he also led his team to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
