The San Antonio Spurs have won five NBA championships. They won their maiden title back in 1999 by defeating the New York Knicks. Their last championship came in 2014, where they defeated the Miami Heat. The Spurs dominated the mid 2000s, winning titles in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

The Spurs went 15-2 in the playoffs to win their first ever title. Tim Duncan, who was in his sophomore season, won the Finals MVP. He became the second youngest player in history to win the Finals MVP. The Spurs defeated the New York Knicks, led by the duo of Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston, in five games in the Finals.

The addition of Manu Ginobili in 1999 and Tony Parker in 2001, signified significant turning points in the franchise's history. They went on to form a legendary trio alongside Duncan. In their road to the 2003 NBA Finals, the Spurs defeated the legendary duo of Shaq and Kobe. They defeated the three-peat Lakers in six-games in the conference semifinals. In the Finals, they defeated the New Jersey Nets in six-games to win their second NBA championship. Tim Duncan won his second Finals MVP that season.

In 2005, the Spurs coasted through to the Finals again. They were facing the reigning champions Detroit Pistons, who formed a formidable lineup known for their defensive prowess and clutch performances on the way to the NBA Finals. The series went to seven games, eventually Spurs defeated them 81-74 in Game 7 to win their third NBA championship. Tim Duncan won his third Finals MVP.

In 2007, the Spurs defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in a clean sweep in the Finals. Tony Parker won his first ever Finals MVP, averaging 24.5 points and 5.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

In 2014, the Spurs faced a similar foe in Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Their ball movement, off-ball player movement, pick-and-rolls and unselfish plays were vital components of their offensive plays. The Spurs annihilated the Heat in five games to win their fifth title. Young forward Kawhi Leonard won his first ever Finals MVP, he guarded and played clutch defense on LeBron James.
