Tyrese Haliburton is a star point guard of the Indiana Pacers. Two-time NBA All-Star in 2023 and 2024, Haliburton is known for being an elite floor general and using his high basketball IQ and playmaking ability. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on leap year’s day, February 29, 2000, Haliburton played at Oshkosh North High School but he was just a three-star recruit. It was at Iowa State that he developed into an all-around point guard during two years. His decision-making and ability to distribute the ball made him a coveted prospect, and in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected him 12th overall.

In his rookie season, Haliburton displayed efficient shooting as he shot a terrific 40.9% from beyond the arc with 5 attempts a game. He earned a spot on the All-Rookie First Team. In his sophomore season, Haliburton was traded to the Indiana Pacers in a blockbuster deal that brought Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings. Haliburton quickly took on a leadership role with the young Pacers team and showcased his elite playmaking skills. In November 2022, he made history as the first player ever to record 40+ assists and zero turnovers over a three-game stretch. By the 2023-24 season, Haliburton’s game had reached new heights as he averaged 20.1 points and 10.9 assists per game, leading the league in assists. In the 2024 playoffs, Haliburton led the Pacers all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the eventual champions Boston Celtics. Haliburton’s unorthodox yet effective style has made him one of the most promising point guards in the NBA.

Major Injuries Tyrese Haliburton Sustained in the NBA

Left Knee Injury (April-May 2021)

Tyrese Haliburton's rookie season was cut short when he suffered a left knee injury in April 2021. The injury occurred during a game against the Dallas Mavericks after he landed awkwardly on his left leg. Haliburton was in visible pain and had to be assisted off the court. An MRI revealed no ligament damage, and surgery was not required, but the injury kept him out for the remainder of the season. Due to this injury, Haliburton missed the final eight games of the season.

Left Elbow Strain and Left Knee Bruise (January-February 2023)

Due to multiple injuries, Tyrese Haliburton faced a challenging stretch in the 2022-23 season. In January 2023, he was diagnosed with a left elbow strain and a left knee bone bruise after a game against the New York Knicks on January 11, 2023. Both of these injuries kept him out of action for about two weeks, and Haliburton rejoined the starting lineup in early February.

Right Ankle Sprain (March 2023)

Haliburton’s injury woes continued throughout the 2022-23 season as he suffered a right ankle sprain during a practice in March 2023, causing him to miss six more games from March 11 to March 22, 2023. Haliburton returned for 2 games but he felt uncomfortable and missed the remaining 7 games of the season.

Left Hamstring (January 2024)

Tyrese Haliburton's 2023-24 season started strong, but in January 2024, he suffered a left hamstring strain in a game against the Boston Celtics. The injury required him to be carried off the court and this led to him missing 13 games over the course of the season.

Despite the injury, Haliburton's performance up to that point was stellar, as he was named an NBA All-Star for the 2024 season. He was later re-evaluated after missing several games and returned on a minutes restriction.

Left Hamstring (May 2024)

Tyrese Haliburton's injury struggles continued in the postseason. In the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics, he suffered a hamstring injury in Game 2, forcing him to leave the game in the third quarter and miss the remainder of the contest.

This injury was particularly devastating as it was the same hamstring that had caused him issues earlier in January 2024. This re-aggravated left hamstring injury caused Haliburton to miss out on crucial Game 3 and Game 4. In both of these games, the Pacers lost and ultimately got swept by the Celtics.
