His remarkable high school performance included 83 catches for 1,607 yards and 25 touchdowns during his senior season. Rated as a five-star prospect, Egbuka committed to Ohio State and joined the Buckeyes as an early enrollee in January 2021.

During his sophomore season in 2022, Egbuka recorded 74 receptions for 1,191 yards and 10 touchdowns, receiving Second-team All-Big Ten honors. Egbuka recorded 41 receptions for 515 yards and 4 touchdowns, receiving Third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023. Egbuka concluded his college career with 205 receptions for 2,868 yards and 24 touchdowns before entering the 2025 NFL Draft, as per his college roster.
