He attended Steilacoom High School, where he earned the title of Washington Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior. During his senior year, he made 83 receptions for 1,607 yards and 25 touchdowns. Emeka Egbuka was rated a five-star recruit at the end of his high school career. Egbuka concluded his prep career and caught 199 catches for 4,000 yards and 61 scores, as per Ohio State Buckeyes' roster page.

In January 2021, Egbuka enrolled at Ohio State, opting to forgo his senior high school season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a freshman, Egbuka played 11 games. During this period, he caught nine passes for 191 yards. He also returned 20 kickoffs and amassed 580 yards. These performances led to him receiving honorable mention recognition in the All-Big Ten Conference. He has accumulated 60 receptions for 743 yards and 9 touchdowns, as of the 2024 season. He has also received several honors, including Second-team All-Big Ten in 2022, and two times Third-team All-Big Ten in 2023 and 2024.
