The current starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in the wake of Kirk Cousins’ injury is Josh Dobbs. He is a unique athlete as he is not only a top-level quarterback in the NFL but also equally talented when it comes to formal education. The Georgia native is currently following both of his passions, playing football and expanding upon his knowledge of space as he interned for a couple of weeks at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in 2019.

The 6 foot 3 inch quarterback has had a passion for football since the young age of five and also for space since the age of 6. Dobbs was always an extremely intelligent student who excelled in both Mathematics and Science. After a journeyman career with little onfield time, he seems to have found a place on the roster of the Vikings, where big things are expected of him from both the team and fans.

Josh Dobbs Nickname

Dobbs has been given the nickname - the ‘Passtronaut’. This nickname comes from a play on the words pass and astronaut. His quality education and dedicated academic acumen allowed him to achieve his dream of becoming an aerospace engineer. His keen interest in aerospace makes the nickname apt for the Quarterback.

From the young age of 5 years, Dobbs showed a keen interest in playing football and by year six, he was completely obsessed with space as well. Working hard in both fields throughout his life, he has become a sensation in 2023 as an NFL quarterback looking to resurrect his playing career.

Is Josh Dobbs an aerospace engineer?

Dobbs has a degree in Aerospace engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is a highly skilled individual both on and off the football field. His love for both the game of gridiron football and space made him enroll at the University of Tennessee where he played as a quarterback on the Volunteers football team while educating himself as an aerospace engineer during classes.

In 2013 he pursued his dreams by selecting aerospace engineering as his major while his minor was business. Playing at a high level of college football at the same time focusing on such a demanding subject is no mean task. Despite focusing on the task on hand on the field and putting up great performances on the field, Dobbs managed a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

Dobbs is not done yet. He also has ambitions to earn a pilot’s license. The highly brilliant quarterback even spent some time with the US Air Force flying a fighter jet. All in all, this is not your everyday story of a professional athlete who is even more skilled in the academic world.
