Zimbabwe defeat Pakistan by 24 runs to level the two match series 1-1

Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan, who lost a first Test match to Zimbabwe in 15 year, by 24 runs in the second Test match at Harare to level the two match series 1-1.

Zimbabwe’s last victory came way back in 1998 when the team won the first Test match by 7 wickets at Peshawar.

The fifth day of this intriguing Test match started with Zimbabwe claiming the wicket of Adnan Akmal, Pakistan’s last recognised batsmen, who was LBW to Tendai Chatara in the fourth over of the morning.

Then Abdur Rehman, along with skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, proved to be a thorn in Zimbabwe’s march towards victory. Rehman kept rotating strike wisely and gave confidence to Misbah, who showed the faith in tail-ender and did not farm the strike.

The duo stayed together for little over 16 overs, scoring 34 runs where they hardly appeared troubled despite few half chances.

Towards the end of that partnership, Rehman showed first signs of weakness as his over-eagerness to score claimed his wicket. He pushed at a wide delivery, edging it to wicket-keeper Richmond Mutumbami.

From there on, Zimbabwe had an opening on which they duly capitalized as Pakistan were bundled out for 239 runs. Misbah remained not out with 79 runs.
