Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is a series of open-world action-adventure games. The game was created by two Scottish video game designers and programmers, David Jones and Mike Dailly. British development house, Rockstar North is the primary developer of the game. The games are published under Rockstar Games. It is the fourth highest-selling video game franchise of all time.

Gameplay

In all the games in the series, the role taken up by the player is that of a criminal in a big city. Thereafter he is given tasks to complete which help the player to climb up the ladder in the world of organised crime in that city. These missions are given to the player mainly by a major crime lord or kingpins in the city.

The missions mainly feature killing and looting along with occasional appearances of missions featuring different driving, flying, firefighting, gang wars and flying an aircraft along with other various things depending upon the game’s storyline.

Being an open-world game, the player has a lot of freedom and can decide what all tasks he wants to take part in. These missions usually attract the attention of the city’s law enforcement and often lead to a runaway situation which is also sometimes a mission on its own.

Gaming Platforms

The game in its initial years was only available on Windows and PlayStation. It was eventually rolled out for all major mobile platforms as well as Xbox, macOS, Nintendo etc.

GTA Updates

GTA Online, the online multiplayer mode of the game gets regular updates. The updates generally include new bonuses and rewards. New daily objectives are also added to the game, completing which help the players earn in-game money. The updates for GTA 5 Online are generally weekly in nature.

GTA: San Andreas

GTA: San Andreas, the seventh title in the GTA series was released in 2004. The game focuses on the story of Carl “CJ” Johnson, a former gangster. CJ is brought back to his home following the news of his mother’s demise. This homecoming is followed by a series of events which sees CJ explore the world of crime in San Andreas and surrounding areas. The game features references to a lot of real-life elements of the 1980s and 1990s Los Angeles. The game gained a lot of critical acclaim for its excellent video graphics as well as realistic gameplay and music. It also attracted a lot of criticism due to its violent nature.

GTA: Vice City

The game was released in 2002 and is based in a fictional city called Vice City which is inspired by Miami. The game is set in 1986 and follows the life of Tommy Vercetti, a mobster. The game starts with Tommy’s release from the prison and goes on as he is given tasks to perform, both small and big and eventually build a criminal empire of his own. The events in the game are inspired by real-life incidents of 1980s Miami.

GTA 5

GTA 5 is the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. The players control a total of three protagonists and regularly switch between them. The game is a set within the fictional state of San Andreas, which is based on California. Both third-person and first-person game plays are possible. The game received a huge response from all over the world on its release and earned over $ 1 billion in just three days. The game is considered one of the best video games ever made and went on to win a lot of awards.

GTA News

Epic Games offered GTA 5 Premium Edition free of cost to all until May 21 via its Epic Games Store. Also, Rockstar Games, the publisher of the game is undergoing a major change. Founder of the studio, Dan Houser has left the studio and new leaders have stepped in to fill the shoes of the former management.

Rumours of GTA 6 are idling in the air but not much is known about its release date. The studio may release it in 2023, on the 10th anniversary of GTA 5’s release.
