Whitmarsh voices disapproval against the prospect of 21 races

Martin Whitmarsh has expressed his concern about the F1 calendar being extended to 21 races as he believes that it might be a little too much to handle for the teams.

New Jersey is expected to make its Formula One debut next season, after having to put it on hold for nearly a year as the organizers hadn’t fully taken care of the terms and conditions of the contract.

Now it has been revealed that Jersey won’t be the only new comer as Russia has been squeezed in, bringing the grand total number of grands prix to twenty one which, according to the McLaren team boss, is one too many.

“I don’t know whether there really will be 21, but I’ve heard the stories of a variety of new venues, from Russia to talk of New Jersey again,” said Whitmarsh to ESPN F1.

“Well they’re both important territories, aren’t they, but whether all the other dates on the calendar survive, I don’t know. But 21 is a lot of races, that’s for sure.”

There were 19 races this year and 20 the year before that. Even though it is just the addition of one more race, Whitmarsh believes that the ceaseless activity will take its toll on the teams.
