Barcelona's ability to attract high-profile superstars is undeniable. The last few years have seen the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, Frenkie de Jong and Ousmane Dembele switch to Camp Nou. Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay also joined the Catalan giants this summer to continue the trend.

Having lost their talisman Lionel Messi this summer, it is likely Blaugrana will respond by adding another top superstar to their ranks. Of course the club has some financial challenges, but it isn't as serious as it was a few weeks ago.

Barcelona have parted ways with a number of high earners, raised some cash from a couple of sales and implemented pay cuts in the contracts of some players. The return of fans will also boost their revenue significantly, meaning they can start dreaming of making big-name signings next year.

As we move closer to the turn of the year, we've decided to compile a list of five high-profile signings the Catalan giants can make in 2022.

#5 Aymeric Laporte

The recent 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich is a clear indication that Barcelona still have some serious work to do at the back. One player who can significantly improve Blaugrana's backline is Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte.

The Spaniard was linked with a switch to Camp Nou during the summer transfer window but Blaugrana's economic crisis proved to be a barrier. According to reports, the defender likes the idea of joining forces with the Catalan giants and that could prove influential in the future.

Laporte is apparently keen to leave Manchester City as soon as possible, with John Stones and Ruben Dias intensely fighting him for a starting spot. The Spaniard will be a decent option for Barcelona, considering he already has La Liga experience with Athletic Bilbao.

#4 Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba appears to have reached the end of the road at Manchester United. The midfielder has refused to renew his contract with the Red Devils based on the initial offer. Negotiations are still going on but some still expect him to leave as a free agent next summer.

Barcelona have recently been linked with a swoop for the Frenchman. It would be a huge coup if they could manage to sign him for free at the end of the season. Pogba has entered the season on a brilliant note, firing on all cylinders as Manchester United go all out to fight for silverware this season.

So far, the 28-year-old has made five appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League, recording seven assists to his name. He will surely be a great addition to any team across Europe.

#3 Bernardo Silva

The second Manchester City player on the list, Bernardo Silva is also one of the few high-profile players who could join Barcelona in 2022. The Portuguese has been linked with a switch to the Catalan capital in the past and it's easy to see why.

Silva is a player with great technique, works hard with or without the ball and usually steps up in big games. He can also play in multiple positions across the center and in attack, rendering him a huge asset.

The playmaker currently has a market value of €70 million as per Transfermarkt. However, Manchester City could be willing to let him go for a lesser sum following the arrival of Jack Grealish this summer.

#2 Dani Olmo

The Spaniard will be eager to return to Barcelona

Barcelona tried to prise Dani Olmo away from RB Leipzig on deadline day of the summer transfer window but the move fell through. Everything indicates they'll be coming back for the Spaniard in 2022.

Dani Olmo needs no introduction to Blaugrana's system, having represented the club at youth level before leaving Camp Nou in the summer of 2014. Since joining RB Leipzig last year, the Spaniard has made 64 appearances, bagging 12 goals and 14 assists.

Dani Olmo was one of the standout performers for Spain at the European Championship this summer, bagging three assists in five games. According to reports, he could cost Barcelona in the region of €50 million.

#1 Erling Haaland

It is an open secret that Barcelona fancy the idea of making Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland their superstar signing next year. Should they succeed in luring the Norwegian to Camp Nou, it will surely be one of their finest transfers in recent years.

Despite being just 21 years old, Haaland is already one of the best strikers in Europe. He finished as the top scorer in the Champions League last season, bagging 10 goals in just eight matches. So far this term, he's recorded 11 goals and four assists to his name in eight appearances for Dortmund across all competitions.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is a huge fan of the striker. He also has a decent relationship with his agent Mino Raiola, which could work in Blaugrana's favor. According to reports, Haaland currently has a mamoth €150 price tag on his head. However, the Spanish giants could sign him for just €75 million when his release clause drops next summer.
