Kevin De Bruyne is one of the exciting talents in Europe which is why Chelsea signed him last summer. After looking at options we had available at the club, Chelsea decided to sanction a loan for De Bruyne to the Bundesliga and he has been playing really well with six goals and nine assists for Werder Bremen.
His performances have caught the eye of the “bigger” clubs in Germany and as being reported in the media, Borussia Dortmund have “enquired” about his availability for a permanent transfer with a fee of double what we paid for him being reported. A bid of around £14.5m is being talked about and if that was offered, you would have to question whether Chelsea will find the offer to good to refuse.
In saying that, if Chelsea are looking to hold onto him, another possible year long loan is an option.
It was interesting to hear De Bruyne’s agent Patrick de Koster talking yesterday in response to the mounting speculation about his client. With reported interest as I have stated from Dortmund, he said:
“Chelsea does not want to sell Kevin. They want to send him out on loan again. Several clubs the from Bundesliga are interested in him such as Leverkusen, Dortmund and Schalke. Bayer Leverkusen is a very good option. They will play in the Champions League next season and Kevin could probably play in Andre Schurrle’s position. Kevin wants to proceed in his career and Leverkusen might be the right place.”
If you ask me, Chelsea should bring De Bruyne back to the squad and keep him here for next season. He is already an established Belgian international. He has Champions League and now Bundesliga experience, so why would we decide to give him another year away?
Surely after what has happened with our squad this season, we can see that when Eden Hazard is missing, Marko Marin doesn’t cut it. The natural option is De Bruyne and the sooner we give someone with his experience at his age a chance, the better it will be for our squad and football club next season!
