Virgil van Dijk's light joke about Cristiano Ronaldo's absence at the 64th Ballon d'Or ceremony held in Paris, which saw Lionel Messi bag his historic sixth title, has not gone down too well with Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro.

The Dutch centre-back was asked about Ronaldo's absence at the prestigious ceremony, and whether it meant that he had one less rival to compete with. To this, van Dijk passed out a light-hearted remark saying, "Was he a rival then?"

In an Instagram post, the Portuguese superstar's sister went on an epic rant about how delusional it was for the Liverpool defender to compare himself to Ronaldo, who is one of the legends of the game.

Aveiro mentioned how Ronaldo had already been at the top of the Ballon d'Or rankings 'a thousand times' and also went on to take a jibe at Van Dijk by saying that Ronaldo had already been a 'tri-champion in a country where currently Virgil hasn't still got his hand in the can'.

"Then, dear Virgil, Cristiano Ronaldo went to other places and became the greatest player in the history of a clubezito. Real Madrid, tell you something Virgil? Maybe so, because this club, with this Cristiano guy, even beat you in the Champions League final. Of these, Ronaldo already has five, Virgil.

She also reminded the Dutch national team captain about how a Ronaldo-led Portugal beat Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League final this year before stating that for her, Ronaldo will always be the best player in the world.

The Juventus forward snubbed the Ballon d'Or 2019 gala as he prioritised going to the Gran Gala del Calico award ceremony to receive his ‘Best Player in Serie A’ and ‘Best Forward’ awards.
