EPL side West Bromwich Albion to scout Delhi talent in January 2014

In an attempt to infuse fresh blood into the sleeping football giant, English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion from Birmingham are headed to India as a part of their West Bromwich Albion Foundation program in association with Youth Football International (YFI) to scout, train and develop talent across the country.

In a bid to give direction to their project, the EPL club would travel around the country, starting off with Delhi as their first stop, where they would conduct a talent hunt for Under-12, U-13 and U-14 players on Saturday, January 11 at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi, followed by training and monitoring of the selected lot at the American Embassy School tiger turf during their week’s visit here from January 19-25, 2014.

The selected kids would not only be an integral part of the club’s consistent monitoring program, but will be entitled for benefits ranging from scholarship in the YFI-West Bromwich Albion Academy, along with club merchandise.

The West Bromwich Albion arrival to India is focusing on the long-term development in the country. A testimony to the statement lies in the fact that the club is not coming up with a franchise and their activities are not about financials, making it accessible, dream-able and feasible even for the money-stringent talents to come up the ranks and stand out.

With an eye on now confirmed India’s participation at the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup and to extend their helping hand in nurturing the current breed, the club is restricting itself to talented 12-14 year olds for their initial week-long program in Delhi.

The trial runs from 9am to 5pm and is open for all falling into the 12 to 14 years age group. The club will also visit a few Schools, NGOs and slums to give the underprivileged and the less fortunate some training and pick a few boys that could hold the future of the country’s football scene.

Hailing from Birmingham, which has a huge expat Indian community, West Bromwich Albion has been a regular feature in the English Premier League in recent years. The club that finished a respectable 8th last season, a win against defending champions Manchester United this season, and are making constant overall progress.
