Chelsea striker Fernando Torres believes the signing of Cesc Fabregas recently was just what the club needed and has backed the former Barcelona man to shine for the Blues next season.

Chelsea announced the signing of Cesc Fabregas recently for a fee in the region of £26.6 million and the news broke the hearts of many Arsenal fans, who were hoping to see the return of their former captain. Fabregas left North London in 2011 for Barcelona and despite being tipped for a return to Arsenal, the Gunners reportedly opted against signing him as Germany international Mesut Ozil already occupied the space he would play in.

Jose Mourinho swooped for the Spanish star instead, and his addition was lauded by a number of professionals.

Fernando Torres believes the signing of his Spain international team-mate will lift the spirit around Chelsea and that Fabregas was just the signing the club needed ahead of a pivotal season.

Torres told reporters: “I wish he could have joined us a couple of years earlier.

“He is a blessing for strikers, he always looks to find that final key pass, he’s the type of player Chelsea don’t have.”

Fabregas will join the club officially in July.
