Former Manchester United defender Arthur Albiston has revealed that he is thrilled with the Red Devils' capture of Luke Shaw.

The 18 year old became the Old Trafford club's second summer signing as United sealed a big money move for Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao on Thursday. The left-back joined the Red Devils from Southampton and the former Saints star will join Patrice Evra as the other left-back in the squad.

Albiston, who was also a left-back at Old Trafford between 1974-1988 believes United have signed a top-quality player in the form of Shaw's signing.

"Obviously, he's a great addition to the squad. He's a top-quality player. We've seen that in the last couple of seasons since he broke into the Southampton team at such a young age," Albiston told MUTV.

Shaw was picked up by Roy Hodgson for the 2014 FIFA World Cup as England were crashed out of the group stages of the competition. However, United's latest capture featured for the Three Lions during their final fixture against Costa Rica - match ended in a goalless draw.

Albiston believes Hodgson decision to add Shaw in the World Cup squad will give him much needed boost for the future events.

"Now he's taken it a step further by getting into the England squad and playing in the team. Some people might have argued they didn't want to take him but it was a fantastic experience to go to the World Cup at that age," United legend said.

"I'd like to think he'll be playing in future World Cups and European Championships for his country. More importantly, I want to see him playing here at United for the next 10 years."

"He's only a baby in terms of league experience. But he's shown he can handle it by playing in the Premier League with no problem at all. He has fantastic physique about him," Albiston added.
