Gareth Bale unveiled at Real Madrid

Real Madrid fans welcome Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale was unveiled at Real Madrid’s stadium Santiago Bernabeu today in front of 80,000 Real Madrid fans.

He was handed over Madrid’s number 11 jersey by club president Florentino Perez.

At the unveiling ceremony, Gareth Bale said: “I just want to say that it is amazing to be here. I hope I can help bring success to the club and that we can win the club’s 10th European Cup this season.

“I just want to try a few words in Spanish. ‘Hello. It is a dream to be here in Madrid. Thank you for this welcome.”

Florentin0 Perez said: “Welcome to Santiago Bernabeu. The place where many legendary players have played during 111 years of history.

“We are in this temple to introduce someone who knows about all those values and the passion for the football.

“He was chosen as the best PremierLeague player last season. He’s a young player but he has great skills.”

Perez was effusive in his praise for the Welsh international: “He loves sport, football and becoming a Madrid player was his dream. Finally we made it. Here is with us and with our fans. His determination was key to complete the move. He’s been solid in his thoughts.

“We keep our policy of signing the best players in the world, what made us become the best. Welcome to Real Madrid”
